1572. John Clay of Hardwick leased 7 acres in Palterton to Oliver Wheat. (Derbyshire Record Office Ref.- D187/2/50).

1585. John Clay of Crich sold his land in Palterton. Scarcliffe parish -7 acres called “The Greve”. (Derbyshire Record Office Ref.- D187/2/51).

1605. Robert Wolhowse purchased from John Claye a close called The Grove or Greave in Palterton 4 acres and 10 acres in Palterton and Scarcliffe and 4 cottages. (DRO Ref.- D187/2/71).
